Hundreds of villages were protesting outside the Legislative Council where they hurled bottles, eggs and some very mean abuse against the officials and lawmakers before heavy downpour dampened their spirits and effort. A numbered few also threatened that they will tear down the Government House if their homes are destroyed for and that was the very reason they were demonstrating.

A meeting was supposed to be held by the Legco development panel over proposals by the government to tear down illegal structures in some rural areas. According to the police there were about 1,700 protestors but word on the ground counted there to be more than 3,000 villagers. They are asking for the government not to bulldoze anything which will directly affect thousands of families and that they should consider and think carefully. The demonstrators arrived at the council building with banners and in 80 coaches shouting slogans like ‘Strongly opposing the proposals to destroy our homes’ and such.

After the rain, they continued their protest and some were playing the national anthem despite warnings of another downpour looming. When Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-Ngor, the Secretary for Development arrived in her car, they tried to break through the blockage held up by the police and threw bottles and eggs at her vehicle.
